Little Soldiers

sproutThey just pop on up. After a few days anxiously waiting for signs of life, the little sprouts somersault out from inside that dry bean planted into the ground.

beansThe ground has been warming the bean with the summer heat. Alternately, it steams the bean plump from the hot energy of the summer’s sun and the occasional douses of gentle rain-simulated showers courtesy of the setting on my hose’s nozzle.  The engorged bean springs open, and out comes a thick stem to be rooted over the bean. The stem then lifts the bean itself out of the ground and separates to bring forth its first true leaves.
