Garden Update: Late June

The amazing thing about gardening is that nature never fails to surprise you. One of the most stunning surprises for me this year is that all the tomato varieties I got this year have done so well; they have each grown over six feet tall! Another surprise was that one of the plum varieties has at least *eighteen!* (18!) tomatoes from one flower cluster.

And another pleasant surprise that the plants are still flowering and setting fruit in the same multitude.

Then there are a few unsurprising successes. The cucumber plant is doing well; finally having reached the top of her cage.

And among her shady depths a few fruits do hang.

One very disappointing surprise is that one tomato plant seems to have burnt up, all but the main stalk and fruits.

And a very interesting surprise.  A broken off tomato stem, adorned with blossoms, merely stuck in the soil out of a passing thought. In fact, that broken stem has rebounded and appears to have become alive again.

Or on the flipside, a perfectly healthy looking squash plant one day and the next this sad wilted mess.

On another note, it’s my happy pleasure to reveal that Madame Poule is doing much better. In fact, she’s got quills growing on her back quite noticeably!
