Beer, Bourbon & BBQ

August 6, 2010

This weekend the Second Annual Beer Bourbon & Barbeque Festival. This year, they broke the event up over two nights; you could get tickets to either Friday Night or Saturday. F. & I went tonight and we had a very pleasant time, even though we were dripping sweat the whole time. glasses

Walking in you receive your tasting glass at the entrance into the amphitheatre. Emerging from the wooded path there are countless beer breweries and bourbon distilleries surround the amphitheatre, filling the natural areas. Different barbeque caterers make up part of the park, each show casing their own whole hog or in some cases, suckling pigs.

I was surprised that the tasting kiosks also featured several hard liquors like rum and vodka, and even liquors like my preferred, St. Germaine liquor were represented.

A of course, there was all the barbeque. We both agreed it was all very tasty, though nothing with which we, as North Carolinians, are unfamiliar. Overall, the barbeque sauces decidedly weighed towards the Western (tomato based) style than Eastern (vinegar based). F. & I did decide that the best barbeque represented went to the the folks with the tie-died shirts from Tennessee (sorry, I can’t recall their name, and it isn’t listed!). Their pulled pork had the perfect ratio of sweet succulent fatty bits to lean pork ratio. Yumm! What’s your favorite type of barbeque sauce?
